Sun-Kissed Summer Skin Guide - Always Sunkissed

Always Sunkissed Guide to Healthy & Glowing Summer Skin

Skin in the summer is rather a curse or a blessing. I’d like to think I have pretty good skin to start with; I have few breakouts, my skin doesn’t get super dry or super greasy (most of the time) and because I’m in my early twenties, aging isn’t my biggest concern right now. I find though, in the dead of winter and the height of the summer, I do find myself struggling with different areas of skin care.

Here are a few problems I find myself having in the summer:Read More »

Taking Care of your Hair and Skin in the Winter

So today was the first day it really felt like Fall, maybe even Winter. It was just really cold, but not really miserable. The only part that made it a little miserable, is that I wasn’t  prepared for it. I wasn’t prepared, I don’t have riding boots, I don’t have my winter jacket and I didn’t even turn on my heat last night because I thought it was just the wind. So, I want to help you be a little more prepared. While, my fall/winter clothes are still sitting in my car and on Nantucket, my skin and hair products are happily living in my house and ready to aid this dry and cold weather!

Deep Conditioning Treatment

This treatment I use about once a week and it really saves my hair. I let it soak in for about 5 to 10 minutes, hop in a nice, steamy shower and then wash it out. Reminder from my post where I learned I was washing my hair all wrong and that condition, shampoo, condition can really help, especially with deep conditioning.

Wash Your Face, But Don’t Always Scrub

I usually use Apricot scrub because I have been in love with it for absolutely ever. I have used it as long as I have washed my face, my Mom used it before me and I have never thought about using anything else. One day I decided to try something else and now I am hooked on using both. Apricot Scrub is great in the summer with all the humidity and grease, but in the Winter everything is dry. I still use Apricot, but I switch it out every day so I am not using it every day.

Don’t Forget About the Rest of Your Body

Scrub your skin and not just your face. I have this amazing scrub that smells wonderful and just makes my skin super soft. I think this is a great investment and you don’t need to use it everyday! Don’t forget to lotion afterwards!

Eat To Impress

What you put into your body is one of the most important aspects to your skin and hair routine. If all you eat is sh*t, then your skin and hair is going to reflect that. Healthy eating will help fuel you, your skin, your hair and help you out in the long run!

Stay Hydrated!

This is told to you, time and time again. I know every post about skin and hair is always about staying hydrated, but that is because it is true. Your body is literally majority water, the more you drink the better you feel and the better your skin will look. Thank me later for this reminder.

I hope these tips help you this Fall (winter) season. I think these are all very important aspects into having good hair and skin. What you put into your body, will alway reflect that, including money and time.

Fall Meets Back-To-School

This week here at the University of New Haven is back-to-school week, with Monday being our first day {Tuesday is more my first day}! I have a schedule packed with 6 classes, work, my sorority, clubs and somehow still a social life. A huge part about classes, is dressing for anything the world throws at you. Dressing for class is comfort with style. The outfit I wore the first day can be dressed up or down. I added a shall for warmth {it’s not summer anymore} and stuck with some fall colors. Ripped mom jeans are always a great way to bring comfort to any outfit, especially when you switch them out for your typical skinny jeans! {Check out this article for more on mom jeans}.

This is my outfit for my first day back to classes, even though I didn’t have class until 6pm!

How was your first day of classes? Let me know in the comments!

Simplistic Summer

Summer is the perfect time to be simple, yet elegant. It doesn’t take a lot to make a great outfit. Pick the right color scheme, add the right accessories and bam you’re all set. I think having simple pieces in your closet will help you to create beautiful outfits because you can mix and match them. Sometimes I even buy the same shirt in different colors, like I plan on doing with this shirt.

This outfit consists of a simple color scheme; blue and white. Pick the right fabrics so you’re not sweating in this heat! Then you match it with the right accessories. This could be earrings, necklaces, shoes, etc! The other day I was reading some articles and I came across one that said every outfit needs three pieces to be complete (and that usually doesn’t include your shoes). I cheat sometimes and include my shoes because I spend good money and time getting them, but overall three main pieces. This one has my top, my pants and then I include my necklace. In the future, I might pair with a statement necklace, I have a bulky nude one that I think would pair amazingly with this.

5 Packing Tips for a Wedding in a Different Country

As you know from previous posts, this upcoming weekend, I will be headed to Bermuda for my cousins wedding. This is exciting, as I get a long weekend full of relaxation, travel and family. I do wish I’d be getting to see all my cousins and family, but hopefully another time, real soon we can all get together. But packing for a wedding is difficult in general, packing for a wedding in a different country is just a plain out struggle, but one you can’t really complain about because you get to travel to a different country. So, here are my packing tips for going to wedding in a different country, especially a warmer climate country…

Don’t Forget the Essentials // Essentials include things like your toothbrush and your passport. Mostly your passport. Whenever I go to leave somewhere on a new adventure, I make sure I always have my passport, my wallet and my cell phone. I always say, anything else, if I forget it, I’ll live.

How to Pack for an Abroad Wedding // Always Sunkissed

Master the Carry On // The carry on is one of the most important parts of traveling. Everything needs to be organized, otherwise, you’re going to have a very upsetting day(s) of travel. I like to bring a few beauty essentials such as chapstick, lotion, mascara and makeup wipes (for the overnight flights). You also need to remember your book, headphones and any other form of entertainment. Lastly, back to essentials, make sure your essentials are easy to reach because you will need them (passport, tickets, wallet, cellphone).

The Dress //  You can no, under any circumstances, forget the dress you have planned to wear to the wedding. This would just be stupid. For the wedding I am going to, I had to have a very specific color scheme for my dress and let me just say, it was not easy finding a dress that I liked that fit me and the two color choices. If you forget this, you will be doomed for eternity and that’s that.

Always, and I DO Mean Always, Bring a Hair Straightener // Now you might think I’m crazy for this one, but I couldn’t be more serious. A hair straightener not only straightens your hair (duh), but it also can be used like an iron. I think this is super important when traveling, especially to a wedding. Nobody wants to walk around in clothes that looks like they’ve been sitting in the bottom corner of your closet all winter. For even better use, bring a spritzer that you can fill with water once you get to your destination.

Collaborate With Everyone Else That is Going //  My sister and I are almost masters at this. She’ll text me to bring one thing and I the other. We compromise so we’re not both bringing the same things to make room in our luggage. It’s also great because you can share a closet this way. She can bring a sweater I need or I can bring shoes she would need. It really helps the world go around when you don’t have to pack everything alone. Highly suggest finding a traveling companion who wears the same size as you, or at least uses the same products.

A quick last reminder, don’t forget to leave enough room to bring back fun things you get and don’t forget to pack the present if you didn’t have it sent that way. Also, don’t forget to stay hydrated, traveling takes a lot out of you and so does weddings.

Have you ever been to a wedding abroad? If so, where was it? How’d you prepare? If not, would you ever want to and why?

Summer Beauty Tips

Summer is upon us, which for me means that my beauty routines are changing. I know personally I stop wearing as much makeup, I have to wash my face a little better and moisturizing is key. SPF is more important than ever and what I put in my body affects me more than ever.

I’ve shared my hair tricks, so now is for my beauty tricks. Here are five tips to help you survive the summer heat. Read More »

I’ve Been Washing My Hair All Wrong And That’s About To Change…

So I use to just do the basic stuff to my hair, no matter the weather, season, etc. The most I added was if I blow dried my hair or straightened it.

Safe to say, my hair hated me.

I then added the Garner Fructis Marvelous Oil to my beauty routine and it made a difference, but the hair journey I was on, wasn’t over yet. During the summer, my hair use to be as dry and brittle as the Sahara dessert. Then I added ever straight Brazilian Keratin Therapy by OGX for daily use in the summer and fall. It really helps my hair to stay soft and not-so gross. {I use the marvelous oil for fight after I wash my hair and the Keratin Therapy to start my day}Read More »
